"Coral'ly green

As I've mentioned in a previous post, I love the colour coral for clothes. When I saw this skirt in Forever 21 in Sawgrass in Florida, I was like "I have to have it!". When I saw the price of US$19.99 I thought I was in heaven.

I also have been loving lace lately and this skirt was the perfect combination of both.

I also love these shoes. They are so comfortable and give me the right amount of added height at 3 inches.

Pop of orange

First, let me apologize for the resolution of this picture. I had someone take it with my phone. I've gotten a new camera and took this picture before that.

I wanted to add a bit of colour to this outfit and decided to wear these shoes with it. The heel is orange.

I didn't buy these shoes this way. The heel was the same colour as the rest of the shoe. I adopted a dog in December 2012, Chucky, and he was 1 1/2 years old so he was the way he was. I had worn the shoes and took them off after I came home from work. I went out of the room and when I came back in the room to put the shoes in my closet, I only saw one pair. I looked around the house only to find Chucky with the shoe in his mouth. I was sooooo mad, these are my shoes- hello!. He had chewed through the heel and it was in such a bad state. I took the shoe to a shoe repair store and asked if they could fix it. The lady said she could wrap the heel but she didn't have any brown patent leather to use. She suggested using a different colour. I was so distraught over the shoe that I didn't want to hear that she couldn't wrap it so that it would be as it was originally. She went into the back and brought out the swatches of leather she had. I then began to see what she was talking about. She had red, orange and brown & chose the orange. What I thought was a disaster turned out to be a great way to reinvent a shoe. ^_^. I wore orange earrings as well to tie in the orange in the shoe.

Suffice to say I started putting away my shoes in the closet as I got home to avoid this situation with Chucky again. This was the second shoe he had bitten up.

Janet Yellen – New Federal Reserve Chairman; & Female Empowerment

I am a Treasury Manager at an investment company in Jamaica, which is part of a leading multinational corporation. We always have the TV in the trading room on the Bloomberg channel. Janet Yellen was giving her first public remarks as Fed Chairman to the House Financial Services Committee on February 11, 2014.

Janet Yellen is the 15th Chair of the Federal Reserve & the first female Chair. She officially assumed office on February 3, 2014.

As we listened to what she was saying and watching the effects on the financial markets, I couldn't help but notice her outfit. She had on a nice jacket that was quite fashionable I thought. She also wore a grey pearl necklace. She didn’t wear the usual solid, boring colours that are normally worn by women in government. It was quite refreshing & thought I’d share.

It is a great thing that the great U S of A has a woman leading their economy. It brought me back to a show I was watching where there were some women of the view that women should not and cannot lead because we are too emotional and that is how it has always been. They went on to say that most Fortune 500 companies have men at the helm.
Now this really grinds my gears (Family Guy reference). I went to Immaculate Conception High School- an all-girls Catholic high school in Jamaica. One thing I especially loved my school for was that as women we were never to feel like second class citizens or feel that there was anything we couldn’t do. We had a lot of compulsory subjects and activities & many rules like not walking on the lawn (this was to preserve the lovely lawns). Up to this day I feel weird walking on a lawn but these things made us better women and well rounded.

I digress. My point is I felt empowered. In college, it was kind of weird being in a learning environment with males. I realized more the dynamic that because I was a woman I should be quiet or let the men shine. This brings me back to what I was watching on the show; I saw this in a lot of the women in college and subsequently in the corporate world that they felt that men are the leaders of the world and we women should just accept that. Even if a woman is more qualified than a man, a woman should expect the man to get ahead.

This is sad that women even think this way. I get it that it is a male dominated society but this is just how we have been socialized since the beginning of civilization. A man just decided he was better than a woman and that was it, it caught on. Thank God for the Feminist movement, as we can do anything a man can do. The only limitation I can think of is that they are physically stronger than us. We need to empower ourselves as women to believe that we can do whatever we want to do and not think that we can’t solely because we are women.

I’m not saying give a woman a job just because she is a woman. I’m saying to end sexism and have people accessed due to their skills and experience. Yes there are some jobs better suited for men than women and vice versa. All that being said, empowerment starts in the mind. Women put themselves at a serious disadvantage by thinking they can’t do something before they even start and/or regretting that they were born female.

I also encourage women to be independent and not depend on a man especially financially. You see it all the time women staying in truly unhappy and/or abusive relationships due to them being financially dependent on a man.

This is a topic I am passionate about as you can see. I could go on and on but I will conclude by saying that women should:
·         celebrate being women
·         stop tearing each other down
·         believe in & love themselves
·         be independent
·         be ambitious & pursue their dreams

,Black & yellow, Black & yellow, Black & yellow........

This picture is from when I had more hair on my head. LOL.

As you may have noticed by now, I love me some black & white and some houndstooth.

I got this top thinking I'd try the peplum trend. It's sleeveless but I wanted to wear it to work. Instead of pairing it with a black jacket or cardigan I decided to wear some colour and added this yellow cardigan.

Style Trend- Aviator Sunglasses

Can I just say I am obsessed with this trend? I have about 6 pairs or more in different colours.

Me & Mommy at the beach January 2014
Aviator sunglasses are a style of sunglasses that were developed by Bausch & Lomb and branded as Ray-Ban. They are characterised by dark, often reflective lenses having an area two or three times the area of the eyeball, and very thin metal frames with double or triple bridge and bayonet earpieces or flexible cable temples that hook behind the ears.

Aviator sunglasses, or "pilot's glasses", were originally developed in 1936 by Ray-Ban for pilots to protect their eyes while flying. Aviators were given their name due to their original intention of protecting aviator's eyes. Ray-Ban began selling the glasses to the public a year after they were developed.

(Source Wikipedia)

I have a pair of these also.

They fit most, if not all, face shapes & many celebrities wear them.

Tom Cruise made the sunglasses popular in the 1980s in his movie "Maverick".

Lots of designers have a pair in their collections. The Kardashians recently debuted their own line of gold plated aviator sunglasses.

They come in many different colours too.

Style Maven: Blake Lively

I first saw this young lady on Gossip Girl. I got tired of the show eventually but loved watching the fashion on the show. The show is now done but she has gone on to make quite the name for herself in the fashion world.

She models and is a darling on the red carpet with her impeccable style. Even more shocking, she says that she doesn't have a stylist and selects her outfits herself! If she actually does, I respect her a lot more. Many celebrities are given praises for their clothing choices when they pay a stylist to help them. It's the stylist that deserves the praise and are often not mentioned.

I digress, back to Blake. In October 2013 she was named the new face of L'Oreal and she looks lovely in her ads. This is her first makeup/hair campaign.

Blake is a designer's & company's dream with her statuesque figure & lovely locks.

Lovely in Gucci at the Met Gala

This is my favourite look on Blake. She wears the hell out of a Zuhair Murad dress.

Another Zuhair Murad dress. I loved her strawberry blonde days also.

Just lovely!

This dress may be a bit aging but she looks very heavenly.

Stunning! Love the addition of the turquoise earrings and the fish tail makes her look younger.

Even her street style is fabulous!

This skirt is super short but somehow she doesn't look trashy.

Lovely in Gucci.

Some of her earlier looks. She was en route to finding her style.
The harness was so novel and trendy. Love the colour choices and the beetle embellishment.

She doesn't shy away from wearing colour & this Versace dress is beautiful on her. Then again, what isn't?

She looks like she belongs in Nutcracker. Pretty & dainty.

Very odd looking pants but it's fashion & it's Stella McCartney
