Fuchsia & white

I couldn't decide which one of these pictures to post so I'm posting both. ^_^

I love these shoes, they are from my favourite brand Nine West. It had a splash of orange in it as well as pink & purple. I usually have to start the outfit with the shoes first, as this shoe doesn't exactly go with everything. I just love this fuchsia cardigan & the white eyelet cotton dress.

Black & blue: 2 in 1

I love wearing black but wearing black doesn't have to be boring.

I'm not girly girly, you think yea right, but I really am a tomboy on the inside as I was as a teenager. I love lady like details in clothes though, such as lace and ruffles. I love lace. It's a little weird but I think it can be classic, lady like, proper AND sexy. I fell in love with this skirt when I saw in online at Forever 21. This look is lady like, work appropriate but with a little sass- a modern and fashionable way to wear lace.

I actually wore this on a Friday to work; and went for drinks and dinner after as is. ^_^. This is how you can transition from day to evening to night.

Blushing Garden

I don't really consider myself a girlie girl but as all colours I can appreciate pink. I don't go overboard with it though but I do like pastels for Easter and love this blush dress. It's actually sleeveless so to make it appropriate for work I paired it with this lovely cardigan.

This is one of my favourite cardigans as it has so many colours and can go with so many outfits and not only that it's so ladylike. It also is not too young nor too old.

LOL. The caption for the picture is all about my Mom. I know I get a lot of my clothes from Mommy, as I do looks. Many people say we look like twins. People often wonder if we are sisters but she always sets them straight by saying I'm her daughter. On my last trip to NYC last month, we sat as she went through old pictures. Some were of her at my age now and I was like "Wow, we look alike". Even down to the slight gap with our front teeth. I wear her clothes and she also knows my taste and anything she sees while shopping, and knows I'd like she gets.

Love you Mommy!!!!

Fushia & Mustard

I love wearing colour. I started picking this outfit with the shoes. These aren't your every day shoes. I also didn't want to match the shoe exactly which is why I chose this mustard skirt. I added a statement necklace to tie in the thin strip of orange in the shoes with the rest of the outfit.

As I've mentioned before I like to wear 3 colours at a time if I can- the Trifecta. Today's outfit combines mustard, fushia and orange. The purple in the tip is brawta- a Jamaican term meaning extra.

,Black & yellow, Black & yellow, Black & yellow........

This picture is from when I had more hair on my head. LOL.

As you may have noticed by now, I love me some black & white and some houndstooth.

I got this top thinking I'd try the peplum trend. It's sleeveless but I wanted to wear it to work. Instead of pairing it with a black jacket or cardigan I decided to wear some colour and added this yellow cardigan.

I'm in a cheerful mood...............

As I've mentioned before I love wearing black clothes, as I love the way it contrasts with my skin tone. I've been trying to acquire bright coloured clothing to add to my wardrobe.

I was in a cheerful mood and wanted to go all out with wearing colour, instead my usual adding colourful accents.

I've been wanting to wear this dress for a while. It's sleeveless but that wasn't going to stop me. I thought pink goes with yellow, so I picked this cardigan. I also love to wear three colours if I can and wanted an accessory that was bright but also contrasting. My final task was to select a shoe that would complement the whole ensemble. What better than nude/cream shoes?

Perfection!!!

Houndstooth with a dash of pink

I love wearing black clothes and especially black and white.

I put this dress on and thought I'd jazz it up with a bit of colour. I didn't want to do the usual red so saw this cardigan and it was perfect!!.

Building your wardrobe- work attire

If you're starting a new job or just want to re-evaluate your current work wardrobe, here are a few things to consider:

  • start with the bottom half. Invest in 5 solid colour bottoms (pants and/or skirts. For skirts ensure there's a pencil skirt in the mix as they are great for all body types)
  • 2-3 pairs of neutral coloured work shoes (black, brown, nude, tan, grey)
  • some fun shirts (play around with fabrics and prints as well as have your usual suspects like your solid colours, for instance a black button down shirt)
  • cardigans/jackets
  • create your own uniform
A note on the jackets, there's nothing like a well structured jacket to cinch you in and to make you look more professional. Some jackets are pricey so cardigans are another good cost effective option and they come in so many colours.

With creating your own uniform of sorts, you can simplify things and repeat outfits. This can be pants & shirts or full suits or cardigans & pencil skirts.

Also make sure your clothes fit. Tight, baggy and ill-fitting clothes have no place in the office. Make sure you get a good seamstress/dressmaker to ensure clothes fit properly.

Ensure that you can get mileage out of the items in your closet. Mix and match and get items that complement each other. If you are buying an item, think of what you already have in your closet and see if you could make 2-3 outfits at least out of it.

I also plan my outfits for the week on Sunday nights, this usually takes about 30 minutes max. I get my clothes ironed every 2 weeks or so, if it's not ironed I'm not wearing it. I fuss around and see what works so I spend less time in the morning getting ready. If I put on an outfit that I selected and don't like I go to another one and that evening select another for the next day. I usually wear jackets for the 1st 2-3 days of the week then throw in a cardigan or a button down shirt for the other days. I hate 'being a girl' and taking FOREVER to get ready- how do I fix that? Preparation. I prep my outfits. Even when going to a party I think about what I want to wear, try it on and re-evaluate if needed, then chose my accessories and everything before it's actually time to get ready. For work I chose my shoes and jewellery the night before. I usually get up 30 minutes before I head out the door and that includes cleaning up after and feeding my dogs (I eat breakfast at work which I pack the night before). Nowadays I get up 30 minutes earlier to fit in a workout.

Another thing is to have fun with your outfits. I always say "if I don't feel good, I should at least look good". Play around with colours and different combinations. There's nothing like getting a compliment on how good you look.

Flower Power

Cardigans are a cost effective option for the office. Jackets are great but sometimes cost a bit for a well tailored one. I have found jackets on sale for US$15.99, which is a pretty good price, but I like to really STRETCH my dollar and not only that the amount of options I have in my closet. My favourite brand of cardigans, in terms of price and quality, is GAP. You can get some for US$10 or less at the outlet stores (with discounts applied). I have quite a bit of cardigans in many colours. They are a great way to look professional and put together.

Cleavage isn't appropriate for the office as some cardigans are cut a little low, so make sure to have camisole or tops you can wear underneath the cardigans. Also some cardigans may be a bit thin and your bra may print through (especially the lacy ones). Tube tops are also a good option but be mindful of the type of fabric. I have on a black sleeveless shirt under my cardigan in the picture below. My office is so cold that layering is good. ^_^

I have a lot of makeup and rarely wear it. My usual makeup each day is mascara and lipgloss for work. I usually don't wear foundation/base unless I'm having acne (ironic I know) or going out. My skin is doing a bit better now (thanks to Jencare Skin Farm products) so I'm not wearing any base and I'm trying also L'Oreal's BB Cream. I felt like using a red lipstick I bought 2 months ago. I'm wearing Maybelline Super Stay 14 hour lipstick in #60 Cranberry crush & also Cover Girl Outlast Lipstain #440. I'm always on the hunt for a good staying lipstick. I hate having to reapply during the day. Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Lipcolor is pretty good. I need to try the red in that brand.

The yellow cardigan and red skirt were paired with this top to pick up the many colours in the top. This is one of my favourite tops. It has so many colours and can go with some many things.

TIP: When buying pieces of clothing, try to buy something like this top with a print and with numerous colours so that you can get lots of looks out of it. Maximize your purchase & your money! ^_^

I wore some turquoise earrings (a colour in the print as well) and copper shoes to tone it done a bit. Red shoes or a bright coloured shoe may have been a bit much for work.

Fifty shades of gray.... well maybe 4 shades of gray

Shirt - Charlotte Russe US$10 (sale)
Cardigan- Old Navy US$15 (sale)
Shirt- Gap (got from Mommy)
Shoes- Nine West US$10 (Marshall's)

I felt like wearing pieces today by following a monochromatic colour scheme. I added some animal print to give it some jolt. I swear I have this new found love with animal print,  probably a result of watching too many New Jersey shows like Jersey Shore & Jerseylicious. LOL. Animal print can be worn tastefully and it actually isn't tacky.

These are the earrings I wore. They are light pink and purple. I thought they'd be a nice contrast with the outfit and they went pretty well with the whole outfit. ^_^
